THE MISSIONARY REGENCY
Regent’s name: Sch. Bro. Sakubita Like, OMI
Formation house: St. Joseph’s Scholasticate,
Cedara, RSA.
Regency Place: Sancta Maria,
Lukulu, Zambia
LEARNING COVENANT, 2006
I am doing my regency year at Sancta Maria Oblate Community Lukulu. I live with: Bro. Quilin Bouzi, OMI, (Doing his Internship), Fr. Victor Mwanamwamba, (From the Diocese of Mongu), Fr. Godfrey Mpundu, OMI (Superior of the Community), Fr. Singini Nacidze, OMI (My Regency Supervisor).
I had a number of expectations at the beginning of the year and still have a conviction that they are attainable. These are:
Ø To be aware and not take advantage of the Lozi culture
Ø To be fully involved in the way of life of the Oblate community
Ø To discern my vocation
Ø To be happy in community
Ø To grow and be challenged in my Oblate way of life
However, in the following pages, I would like to share my learning covenant.
A. Regency Goals
- Deepen self – understanding as part of my growth in faith
- Deepening my pastoral response to others
- Understanding the full nature of people to whom I minister
- Developing appropriate skills to respond to these needs
- Revealing God’s presence in lives of the people and not imposing to them
- Attaining happiness
B. Regency Objectives
- Exercising fully my ministry as an acolyte
- Attending to Parish activities such as meetings with various groups but especially those involving the youth
- Facilitating workshops and giving retreats where it is necessary, especially with the young people.
- Having some reflective and interaction discussions just as a way of getting to know people I am working with.
- Sharing the word of God during mass and conducting communion services.
C. Gifts and Previous Experience I Bring to Lukulu
- The greatest gift is that of myself. Being a youth, I want to find a way in which I can help other young people, who like me, suffer to struggle for identity and get confused by their own feelings. I have gone through a number of programs that helped and still help me to understand who I am. Because of this, I want to help others, especially the youth to become human beings, first of all, and become Christians, and hopefully become Saints as our founder challenges us.
- I graduated in philosophy and the courses I enjoyed most were Philosophical Anthropology and Psychology I. These courses provoked in me the interest of knowing who I really am. I find the situation I am in as a very good one for these courses because I am now dealing with real people with their own behaviours and experiences. Learning behaviour and experience will help me to know how to respond best to the needs of the people I live and work with. Otherwise, I am a flexible person.
- I believe God speaks to people differently; therefore, I respect people’s faith and their response to God. Besides, I know this culture I live in because I was brought up in the same culture so I do not want to take advantage of that. I want to listen to and respect the people I work with.
- The other gift I bring is my openness to challenges and growth in my discernment as an oblate.
D. Style of Ministry/ Personal Ecology
My approach to Ministry is being fully involved in what I have been asked to do. It gives me joy and happiness putting much effort in all that I ought to do. I will set aside time to meet with my regency supervisor as well as the parish regency committee. As far as personal ecology is concerned, I have set Monday as my day of rest.
